Legendary actor of Kolkata Soumitra Chatterjee has decreased acting due to old age complications now. On January 19 he turned into 80. At present, he is little bit seen in different programmes only.
Recently Soumitra agreed to act in Star Jalsa’s ongoing popular serial titled Jol Nupur to keep requests from its director and producer.
Soumitra is acting against Sabitri Chatterjee as a pair in Saibal Banerjee and Arunabh Adhikari’s directed serial Jol Nupur now. Already Soumitra’s acted episodes are being telecasted now.
While communicating with this noted actor over mobile phone Soumitra told this correspondent from Kolkata, “When I get time, I watch the serial Jol Nupur. I have liked its story and its directors requested me to work. For this reason, I am acting in this serial. If the viewers will enjoy my acting I will be glad.”
It may be mentioned that Jol Nupur is being telecasted on Star Jalsa since 2013. His acted first movie was Satyajit Roy’s Apur Sangsar. He also acted in Satyajit’s directed other movies – Debi, Tin Konnya, Obhijan, Charulata, Kapurush, Aronnyer Dinratri, Ashoni Sangket, Sonar Kella, Joybaba Felunath and Hirok Rajar Deshey.
Soumitra got Padma Bhushan in 2004 and Dadasaheb Phalke awards in 2012.
