Dhaka Ahsania Mission is facilitating the disadvantaged women of the country through providing skilled development programme.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), a non-government development organization is providing skilled development programmes for the poor and underprivileged women with a view to empowering themselves in the society.
During a physical visit to the Dhaka Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, Mirpur, the reporter found that a good number of deprived women are receiving skill development training from the initiative of the management of the mission.
The female workers are taking manufacture sector related training especially the garments oriented activities including woven and knit. The female workers are very happy to get the three-month long skilled development training. After completion the training course, these female workers are directly joined the garment industries with high salary compared with their contemporary workers in the factories.
A female worker told the reporter that approximately 10,000 poor and deprived workers received skill development training course so far from the institute at free cost. She appreciated the management of the DAM for providing skill development programmes in order to facilitate the deprived women in the society. “Now, we are able to run our family independently for the contribution of DAM”, said the female worker.
Actually, Dhaka Ahsania Mission a leading national NGO in Bangladesh. It has been working since 1985 with the poor and disadvantaged people for livelihood training and employment support.
From 2006 DAM has taken initiatives to develop skilled workers of Ready Made Garment sector in Dhaka and Gazipur districts. DAM also implanting such kind of project named “Skills Development training for Garment Workers” from September 2010.
The skills development-training program has been well appreciated by the employers of the RMG sector as well as the community people for giving a viable training support to the poor and disadvantaged adolescents and youths who never could have such opportunity.
The project is aimed at empowering especially the poor and underprivileged women by providing technical and social skills to improve their employment opportunity in the RMG sector, income and upgrade social status as well as to benefit employers through improved performance.
The project targeted and given priorities to the unemployed and underemployed adolescents and youths between the age group 18 to 25 years who are from ultra poor, disadvantaged, disabled and women headed families, many of who are unskilled or retrenched garment workers living in urban slums came from remote coastal and rural areas.
Deputy Director of Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital, Mirpur Kazi Forhad Alvi told The New Nation recently that the aim of the training programme is to facilitate the underprivileged women across the county.
“We want to see the smiling face of the people and that is why we have undertaken so many development programmes for the betterment of the society as well as country.”
Talking about the DAM, the deputy director said that the mission is a voluntary development organization dedicated to humanitarian services. Set up in 1958 by Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah, eminent educationist, reformer and spiritual leader of the country.
The ideology of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah was to work for social and spiritual development of man.
