Gas pipeline will come to the Northern Region including Nilphamari district. The pipeline is being laid from Bogura to Rangpur via Saidpur and Uttara EPZ in Nilphamari. The idea is to supply gas by June 2023. Once this work is completed, gas will be supplied to industries and homes in the region including Uttara EPZ, BSIC Industrial zone.
According to sources in the Gas Transmission Company Limited on Wednesday 15 April, work is underway to build a 150-kilometer-long pipeline with 30-inch diameter of one thousand PSIG and ancillary installations. The Bogura-Rangpur-Saidpur gas Transmission Pipeline Construction Project is being implemented with the joint funding of government and gas Transmission Company Limited. Work on the project started in October 2016 at a cost of Tk 1,036.55 crore. Already 60 percent of the work has been completed.
Under this project, after testing the soil along the 150 km long pipeline, construction materials like line pipes, induction bends, coating materials, fittings, pig traps, ball valves, gate valves and other equipments have been imported and placed on the acquired land. The project includes a CGS (Central Gas Supply) with a capacity of 100 MMSCFD (Million Standard Cubic Fit per Day) at Saidupur on EPC basis, a TBS (Town Border Station) with a capacity of 50 MMSCFD at Rangpur and a capacity of 20 MMS at Pirganj. TBS is being set up.
Khandaker Ariful Islam, project director of the Bogra-Rangpur-Saidpur gas transmission pipeline construction project said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced in 2011 to supply gas to the pipeline in the northern Rangpur division. His promise is now being implemented.
He said there was some delay in importing goods due to Corona. At present the work of laying the pipeline is in full swing. Eighty percent of the work has been completed. It is expected that gas supply to the northern pipeline will start by June 2023.
