Court Correspondent :Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 on Thursday sent singer Arefin Rumey to jail on charges of repression of wife.Judge Md Arifur Rahman of the tribunal issued the order of bail cancellation upon the plea of accused Rumey’s first wife Ananya. On October 13, last year Magistrate Anwar Sadat ofthe Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka granted the bail to Arefin Rumey and his brother Yasin Roni.Police arrested Rumey and his brother from Katasur area of Mohammadpur in the capital on a complaint lodged by Lamia Islam Ananya with Mohammadpur Police Station, two days before the order of the CMM Court. Ananya had alleged that Rumey often tortured her for dowry and that the level of torture increased after his second marriage.Meanwhile, police on January 19 submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against Rumey. Ananya, the complainant of the case, was also present in the courtroom, when the judge sent Rumey to jail for ‘breach of assurance’.Rumey has been allegedly demanding Tk 20,00,000 as dowry from his first wife ever since their marriage. He also entered into a controversy after he married again, without getting divorce from Ananya, from whom he has a son.The tribunal was scheduled to take the charge sheet into cognizance on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ananya also accused Rumey’s mother and younger brother for torture, said her lawyer, but they were let off following a report of Investigation Officer (IO).
