Cannes’ Short Film Corner is a platform for short films where filmmakers get to meet and interact with film professionals from all over the world
Bangladeshi short film “Meghe Dhaka – Life Without Sun” will have its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film’s brief description and poster have been added to the Short Film Corner of the festival’s official website.
The director of the film, Monzurul Alom, said in a statement that he tried to depict the impact of climate change and increased temperature over the whole planet through his film’s story.
Monzurul, who began his career directing TV fictions, also said that he submitted this short film at the 71st edition of Cannes Short Film Corner and is very excited that it got selected by the jury to be screened there.
The 11 minute film tells the story of an underprivileged child named Habu (Habib Arindya) who works at a weaving mill. The only person he has in this world is his paralysed father. The mill is located in the coastal regions and the whole area was destroyed by a cyclone. Habu took his father to the city in search of work but a new storm was waiting for them there.
The film was shot at locations like Pabna’s Atgariya, Dhaka’s Hatirjheel, Tejgaon Rail Station, Farmgate and more. The film is co-produced by Johny Haque and Monzurul Alom under the banner of Filmiana.
