Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited emerged the champions of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) defeating Dhaka Abahani Limited by four wickets in their Super League match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited bagged 24 points from 14 matches, while Dhaka Abahani Limited collected 16 points from as many matches.
Chasing Dhaka Abahani Limited’s total of 229 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited romped home scoring 232 for the loss of six wickets when they had 18 balls to spare.
Third-down wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited remained unbeaten with 81 runs. He hit eight fours and two sixes in his run-a-ball innings. Nurul Hasan Sohan was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Number-8 batter Ziaur Rahman remained unbeaten with 39 runs. He cracked two sixes and four fours in his 26-ball knock.
Fifth-down Parvez Rasool made 33 from 40 balls featuring three fours.
Mohammad Saifuddin of Dhaka Abahani Limited bagged two wickets instead of 36 runs, while Tanvir Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mosaddek Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib got one wicket each conceding 23,23, 35 and 67 runs respectively.
Earlier, Towhid Hridoy of Dhaka Abahani Limited notched up a sparkle 53. His 75-ball innings saw four fours.
Fifth-down Jaker Ali remained unbeaten with 47 runs. He hit four fours in his 70-ball innings.
Number-8 batter Mohammad Saifuddin remained unbeaten with 44 runs. His 33-ball innings was belted with five sixes.
Third-down Afif Hossain scored 29 from 44 balls featuring two fours and a sixer.
Ziaur Rahman of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited bagged two wickets in the space of 36 runs, while Saif Hassan, Parvez Rasool, Sunzamul Islam and Sumon Khan took one wicket each for 19, 40, 40 and 47 runs respectively.
