On New Year’s first day, ICC made confirmation of Bangladesh and former winners Sri Lanka not qualifying for the Super 12 stage of T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. This is the third time Bangladesh have failed to make it to the main stage (Super 10s/Super 12s) of T20 WC. They went through the group stage in 2014 at home and in 2016 in India.
Tigers’ T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan is however unfazed by the news. He is optimistic about his team making it to the Super 12 in 2020. “We have not secured a direct Super 12s berth but I’m confident that we will do well in the tournament by going through the group stage,” said Shakib.
“We are a side capable of beating the best on our day and I see no reason why we can’t go far in the tournament. There is still some time and we will use it to be at our best for the T20 World Cup.
