Getting fit and staying fit is an ideal way to ensure a long and healthy life. No matter what your age is, fitness of the body and mind is vital. But as we age, we tend to slow down and become sedentary. Ageing is inevitable. The exuberance, pep, enthusiasm and energy start waning as youthfulness fades. Also, with advanced age, there comes many odds – physical discomfort, lack of confidence, less endurance, decreased energy and so on.
Making a foray into the senior category should not be an unpleasant experience. In fact, one needs to think that one is making a foray into a ‘smashing’ zone. The effects age has on the body have to be taken in the stride. A changing figure, wrinkles, receding hairline and fading hair colour, altered sleep patterns and other ailments surround us as we age. Being active, physically as well as mentally, is important as age advances. A simple goal should be to take charge of health, start moving and keeping fit and active. A balanced diet, a light exercise regimen, learning to relax, laugh and enjoy the simple pleasures of life can make life pleasant as we age.
Discovering a new hobby, doing something that we like, spending time with family and friends and wholeheartedly accepting the changes that age brings with it, are the keys that will open the doors of happiness and add spice to life.
