The local administration has imposed Section 144 in Pilot High School area of Nabinagar upazila on Saturday evening.
The restriction will remain in force from 6pm on Saturday until further notice.
Police said Abdur Rahim, organising secretary of the upazila unit Awami League, and Khairul Amin, joint general secretary of the municipality unit Awami League, had long been at loggerheads over occupying a government land adjacent to the school.
To settle the dispute, an arbitration meeting had been held in the evening.
A chaotic situation erupted at the meeting over the issue.
To avoid any unpleasant incident, upazila nirbahi officer of the upazila made the announcement in the evening.
