Students of a school in Karnaphuli Upazila blocked the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway on Saturday after rumours about the death of a fellow student spread.
The road was blocked from 10am to 12:30pm, halting vehicular movement and making hundreds of commuters suffer.
Rumours spread after the accident took place around 9:45am.
Nazma Akhtar, a ninth grader at AJ Chowdhury Bohumukhi Krishi High School, was critically
wounded when a human hauler hit her while crossing the road in front of the school.
She was taken to the National Hospital in the town.
But minutes later, rumors about her death spread, triggering protests by the students.
Police managed to cajole the students into withdrawing their blockade around noon, said Alamgir Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station.
