Leaders of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Thursday demanded immediate release of Barrister Mainul Hosein, a former Advisor to the Caretaker Government and also former President of the SCBA.
They raised the demand through a Press conference held in the auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
SCBA General Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon read out a written statement at the press conference.
Former President of the SCBA Advocate Zainul Abedin, former Secretary Barrister Badruddoza Badol, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Advocate Jaglul Haider Afric, Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker, Advocate Shah Ahmed Badol, Advocate Abed Raja, Advocate A B M Waliur Rahman, Advocate Rafiqul Hoque Talukder Raja, Advocate Ayub Ali Ashrafee, Advocate Mirza Al Mahmud and Advocate Sharif U Ahmed, among others, were present on the occasion.
In the written statement, Barrister Khokon said, “It is regrettable to cancel Barrister Mainul’s bail in a bailable case. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is protesting and condemning the order passed by the trial court rejecting the bail.”
“Barrister Mainul Hosein surrendered in the trial court following the Supreme Court’s direction. But he was sent to jail rejecting his bail petition. It’s very unfortunate and we think the order was arranged,” also read the statement.
“The Judiciary will have to be suffered one day for the arranged judgements. SCBA hope the Chief Justice will take initiatives to stop the trends of issuing arranged judgements,” the statement read.
“Barrister Mainul Hosein was sent to jail illegally. It is shameful for all the lawyers. We demand for departmental action against the judge who rejected Barrister Mainul’s bail petition illegally and violating the direction of the Appellate Division and also demand for suspending his judicial power,” said the statement. Meanwhile, the Jatiya Ainjibi Oikyafront organised a rally on the Supreme Court premises yesterday demanding immediate release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Barrister Mainul. Jatiya Ainjibi Oikyafront’s Convener Advocate Zainul Abedin presided over the rally.
Then the SCBA leaders met with Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, a judge of the Appellate Division, who is now performing the duties of the Chief Justice. They handed over a copy of the statement read at the press conference to the judge.
