Salman Shah created a history in the film industry in Bangladesh. After 26 years of his death, popularity of Salman Shah is still on the top position among the heroes of the country. Still now when any of Salman starrer is screened people watch it amid interest. Still his performed songs of movies are being screened on the television, viewers also enjoy these. After deceased of many years, he still remains in the hearts of many film-lovers because of presenting his outstanding acting skill and as a ‘fashion icon’ among all.
Salman Shah got the opportunity to act with internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi film actress Babita in four movies – Badol Khondokar’s ‘Swapner Prithibi,’ Dilip Shome’s ‘Mohamilon,’ Shibli Sadik’s ‘Mayer Odhikar’ and Zakir Hossain Raju’s ‘Jibon Songsar.’ Babita played role of Salman’s mother in two movies while in rest two; she acted in roles of the hero’s Bhabi (sister-in-law). While sharing her feelings to work with Salman in Dilip Shome’s ‘Mohamilon,’ Babita told this correspondent, “Shooting of this movie was done in Cox’s Bazar. Shooting of a scene was going on where a pistol was on my hand on the hill. Rajib Bhai, Sharmin, Salman Shah, Shabnur and I were taking part in the shooting. During that time I seat on a chair but it was not my chair as I unfortunately left my chair at the hotel. Salman observed the matter and he gifted his brought chair to me on the spot. That chair was preserved to me for many years. He always called me mother. In fact, Salman was a good actor. As an actor, he was outstanding. He delivered dialogues and gave expressions so nicely that nobody believed he was acting. May Allah grant him Jannat.”
Salman Shah was born in Zakiganj upazila in Sylhet on September 19 in 1971. He was the son of Komor Uddin Chowdhury and Nila Chowdhury. His maternal grandfather acted in East Pakistan’s first movie ‘Mukh O Mukhosh.’ Salman came to acting following his maternal grandfather’s step.
During school life, he rendered songs regularly. He completed course on folk song from Chhayanaut in 1986. Before coming to acting in the silver screen, Salman got married with Samira Haq on August 12 in 1992. Though Salman got huge popularity to act in Sohanur Rahman Sohan’s movie ‘Keyamat Theke Keyamat’ before that he started acting in television dramas. He acted with popular actress of the small screen Tanvin Sweety in a special telefilm. While recalling its memory, actress Sweety told this correspondent, “My acted first television drama was ‘Swapner Prithibi’ with Salman Shah. He was outstanding talented actor, good human being and his behaviour was nice. In ‘Swapner Prithibi,’ Salman acted in role of Shuvo. I never expect his demise. His early demise will never fulfil in our country.”
Basically Salman started his acting career in the small screen through Mainul Ahsan Saber written drama serial ‘Pathor Somoy’ where he played a role. Though Taukir Ahmed acted in the lead role in that serial but Salman’s presence on the screen was significant. Later, he got more appreciations from the viewers for acting in some other dramas. Though Salman debuted with his career in the silver screen with Moushumi but after acting with this heroine in three other movies – ‘Sneho,’ ‘Den Mohor’ and ‘Antore Antore’ – viewers didn’t watch them as a pair in the big screen later. He mostly paired up with Shabnur in maximum number of movies. This pair is treated as one of the best in the country’s film industry till now. Therefore, Shabnaz, Shahnaz, Lima, Shilpi, Shyama, Sonia, Brishti, Sabrina and Kanchi also acted opposite Salman in cinemas.
After deceased of many years, film-lovers still remember Salman Shah’s name. According to many film producers, Salman came into industry just like a ‘comet.’ He came to cinema, won the hearts of many people and deceased so quickly.
