During the last lockdown, noted actress Sahana Rahman Sumi lost her mother. After losing mother, Sumi had to take more times to become normal. After return to work, she worked in Bornonath directed Durga Puja’s special drama Gouri and BTV’s new drama serial Pother Dharapat, directed by Mannan Shafiq. However, she still feels bad for her mother. She cannot concentrate to work properly in this regard. Besides acting, Sahana Sumi is also familiar as a playwright. Her written dramas Nokshikantha, Lotapata, Diner Shesh, Rupi Rupi Rupban created attention among the viewers. Matia Banu Shuku gave direction of these dramas.
Now Sumi is showing her keen interest to make drama. While talking in this regard Sahana Sumi said, “Now I am planning
to make drama by self written story. I think I write drama with some thoughts those are not to be prepared properly. So, I want to make drama by self written story cordially. But I write drama a little bit. If I write less, so I can give time to direction. By this way I can get my satisfaction. I hope that time is coming now.” Sumi was former student of Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at University of Dhaka. She worked as teacher in Scholastica School for eight years. She came into
limelight to act in Wahiduzzaman Diamond’s movie Nacholer Rani where Sumi played the title role. Nurul Alam Atique’s drama Cycle-er Dana was her acted first TV drama. She has been acting with Prachyanat since 1999. Under this theatre group, she came into limelight to play the title role in drama Koinnya, directed by Azad Abul Kalam. Besides acting, she is also working as a teacher at Prachyanat School of Acting and Design. She also acted in Badrul Anam Soud’s movie Gohin Baluchor and Giasuddin Selim’s movie Swapnojal. She has already finished shooting of Saiful Islam Mannu’s movie Payer Chhap. Her acting was appreciated in last Independence Day’s special drama Tumi-e Aamar Desh. She is acting in Shamim Zaman’s ongoing serial Priyojon. Sumi also acted in Robiul Islam Robi directed short film Hallo Ladies. Born in Chattogram and hailed from Nilphamari, Sumi is daughter of Ustad Waliur Rahman and Somela Rahman.
