SAARC summit An opportunity to resolve problems

Foreign affairs experts and representatives from diplomatic missions in Kathmandu have stressed the need for
taking the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Summit as an opportunity for resolving regional problems.
At a face-to-face programme on the ’18th Saarc Summit: Possibilities and Challenges’ organised by Reporters Club, India’s Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae stressed that all the Saarc member states should utilise the event as a means of consolidating mutual ties
with the expansion of road network, railway service and trade in the region, removing mutual problems, reports The Himalayan on Friday. Former Foreign Minister of Nepal Dr Bhekh Bahadur Thapa said regional problems be raised in the event, underlining the need for the enforcement of Saarc achievements and declarations.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Mashfee Binte Shams, Sri Lanka Ambassador to Nepal WM Seneirathna and Foreign Expert Nischalnath Pandey were among those putting their views on the occasion.
Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Friday visited the National City Hall, the venue for the 18th Summit scheduled to be held in the capital on November 26 and 27.
The four-stage 18th Saarc Summit begins on Saturday and will conclude on November 27. The Summit will be preceded by the thirty-sixth session of the Saarc Council of Ministers on November 25, the forty-first session of the Standing Committee on November 23-24, and the forty-sixth session of the Programming Committee on November 22.
The Saarc Summit, led by the heads of state and government of the member states, will be held at Rastriya Sabha Griha (The City Hall), Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu on November 26-27. The theme of the summit is ‘Deeper Integration for Peace and Prosperity’.
Bangladesh will give importance to a number of issues, including connectivity, poverty alleviation, youth development, fighting terrorism and women empowerment, in the 18th Saarc Summit which will see the signing of three agreements among Saarc member states.
