RU BSU demands amendment to RUCSU by-laws

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BSU), Rajshahi University demanded amendment to the by-laws of the university’s students’ union RUCSU on Tuesday seeking to ascertain balance of power between the president and the elected body.
Cancellation of three sub-section of article seven those provide the RUCSU president supreme authority, they also demanded.
Headed by the University Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman, they submitted a 13-point demand to authorities of the university during a meeting with RUCSU discussion committee, Their other demands include to declare election schedule immediately, to set up polling centres at the academic buildings, a committee formation to ensure all of student organisations’ existence on the campus and on the halls, formation of a five-member election commission after holding discussion with the active student’s organisations, to update voter list, not to allow evening student to pose as both voter and candidate, forming and formatting an observation committee with liable teachers, students and student’s organisations’ representatives.
Shakila Khatun, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union told The New Nation that the three existing sub-sections in the article seven are against the democracy because those sections gave highest power to the vice-chancellor.
Prof Lutfor Rahman, RU Proctor told The New Nation that they would take necessary measures to meet their demands after holding discussion with authorities of the university.
