Health experts at a roundtable in the city on Tuesday stressed on involvement of all the stakeholders for successful implementation of Tuberculosis (TB) control programme.
Every year, a large number of people are affected and die of TB, which is one of the biggest health problems in Bangladesh.
Collaboration among all the stakeholders working in the field is imperative for successfully controlling the disease, they said.
National TB Control Programme (NTP), BRAC and the Daily Samakal jointly arranged the roundtable titled ‘National TB Control Programme: Involvement of All Stakeholders’ at BRAC Conference Centre in the city’s Mohakhali.
Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Ministry Syed Manjurul Islam, Director General of Health Department Prof. Dr. Deen Mohammad Nurul Haque, Director of Health and Nutrition Programme of BRAC Dr. Mohammad Akramul Islam, Dr. Mohammad Mojibur Rahman, National Programme Consultant of NTP, Line Director (TB and Leprosy, NTP) Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Hossain and others spoke at the programme. Mustafiz Shafi chaired and moderates the discussion.
The speakers also called for early case detection and providing treatment to victims, facing challenges to TB control programme and raising awareness on TB and easy availability of its test and treatment across the country.
They said that mass media could play an important role in this regard. They hoped that the mass media would play its due role in the greater interest of the nation.
