National cricket team will have a new sponsor as private cell phone operator Robi won the right is to sponsor the Tigers for the next two years starting from the coming June, 2015.
The media agency Top of Mind who earlier bagged the bagged the right and later as assigned the sponsorship right to Robi Axiata Limited. This was disclosed at a press conference held today at the Home of Cricket in Mirpur, according to BCB press release issued on Thursday.
The agreement allows Robi to have the right to sponsor the national cricket team, under-19 team and Bangladesh A-team. However, Robi’s sponsorship right in this regard will not cover for the tournaments organized by International Cricket Council (ICC).
Earlier Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon, MP at a press conference held on Wednesday 20 May 2015 informed that Top of Mind had beaten Grameenphone with a winning bid of 41 Crore 41 Lakh.
There was a lot of media speculation on who Top of Mind is going to assign the sponsorship right to. Within a day the speculation had been put to rest with the declaration of Robi being the new sponsor for the Tigers.
Robi’s Chief Operating Officer Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said that “we are very pleased to be a partner of the Tigers in their glorious journey. Robi’s Executive Vice President (EVP) for Regulatory Affairs and Company Secretary Mohammed Shahedul Alam, Vice President for Brand and Market Communications Khandaker Ashraful Haque were also present at the press conference.
Kazi Inam Ahmed, Chairman, Marketing & Commercial Committee, Bangladesh Cricket Board BCB), Jalal Yunus, Chairman, Media & Communications Committee, BCB; Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BCB, Ziauddin Adil, CEO of Top Of Mind (BD) along with other high officials were also present on the occasion.
The Indian team will arrive in Bangladesh for a Test and three ODIs on Jun 7. The one-off Test at Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium will begin on Jun 10.
The day-night ODIs will be played at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Jun 18, 21 and 24.
