Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Wednesday arrested seven people, including two Sub-Inspector and two constable of Raipura Police Staion for snatching gold and cash from an expatriate in Narsingdi worth taka 70 lakh.
They were arrested during raids in different parts of the district
The arrestees are: Raipura Police Station’s SI Sakhawat Hossain and Azharul Islam and constable Mainul Islam and Saidul
Islam, Nuruzzaman Mollah, Sadek Mia and Nur Mohammad.
DB police also seized gold, cash and a private car from their possession
Shahjahan, a relative of the expatriate, earlier filed a written complaint with Narsingdi Superintendent of Police over the incident.
According to the complaint, Sohel Miah, was returning home with his relatives in a rented car from the Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport on Friday evening.
When they reached Saheypratab area in Narsingdi Sadar upazila, the driver stopped the car at a CNG station for refueling.
In the meantime, a group of unidentified people introducing themselves as DB men came to the spot in a car and picked up Sohel Miah and his relatives.
Later they looted two gold bars, mobile sets and cash from the expatriate Sohel, a resident of Haimara village of Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.
The looters released them in the Puranpara Bridge area with threat that they will be arrested again if anybody is aware of the incident.
Based on the complaint, Officer in-Charge of District DB Saidur Rahman, SI Abdul Gaffar and Rupam Sarker launched an investigation into the robbery incident.
They later captured CCTV footage from the CNG station and found evidence of the incident.
They identified Roypura Police Station’s SI Sakhawat Hossain and Azharul Islam and Constable Mainul Islam, Saidul Islam and three others after analyzing the footage and thereby conducted raids.
Sakhawat was arrested first and six others were arrested based on his information.
Confirming the arrest DB OC Saidur Rahman said, they confirmed their identity after watching the footage of CC TV. ” They were involved in the robbery.
