A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight between police and cohorts of the gangster in the city’s Sahmserpara area of Chandgaon Thana early Saturday.
Two of his accomplices – ‘Dipu’ and ‘Tufan’ – were captureded from the spot with some locally-manufactured light guns, said S M Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge, (Investigation) of Chandgaon thana.
The deceased was identified as Arman Hazari, 32, an accused of robbery and extortion in at least 50 cases with different police stations in the port city and there were arrest warrants against him in 21 cases.
Deputy commissioner (North) Paritosh Ghosh of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said that Arman Hazari was arrested from Panchlaish area of the port city on Friday night.
Later, police went to Chan Mia Housing Society area, Sahmserpara area to recover firearms as per his confession. But, sensing presence of police, the accomplice of Arman opened fire on them forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence, leaving Arman injured.
He was brought to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) with bullet wounds around 5-30am where attending doctors declared him dead after admission.
