The conditions of maximum roads in port city are yet to improve. Vehicles cannot run on those roads as their conditions are very poor. The conditions of maximum roads are dilapidated due to lack of renovation after the heavy rainfall in the current rainy season.
Most of the roads and alleys in the port city have become unfit for traffic due to cracks and potholes, causing sufferings to the pedestrians, commuters as well as the drivers. According to the sources, the current monsoon makes the condition of roads in the port city Chittagong worst than any previous year.
Maximum roads in the port city damaged due to continuous raining in the current rainy season. The bad condition of roads also causes regular accidents. Despite a ruling by High Court on the authorities concerned, maximum roads are yet to be renovated till now.
Sources said, on August 23 last, the High Court issued a rule on authorities concerned asking why the High Court would not direct to renovate the damaged roads and footpaths in Chittagong.
The bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice J B M Hasan issued the rule against the secretary of LGRD ministry, secretary of communication ministry, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong and Chairman of Chittagong WASA. Following the appeal of Advocate Mohammad Emdadul Haque, the bench of High Court issued two weeks rule against them.
