Agitated garmnet workers blocked the city’s Shyamoli Bus Stand area for over two hours on Wednesday afternoon protesting closure of three factories without any prior notice.
Workers of Alif Apparels 1 and 2 and Alif Garments took to the street around 9:30am and staged a sit-in there demanding opening of the factories.
They also warned of movement until the factories are opened.
The demonstrators withdrew their barricade
around 12:30pm following a meeting between the factories authorites and workers’ representatives with the cooperation of police.
The factories, closed on August 11 due to Eid-ul-Azha, were scheduled to be opened on Wednesday said the agitated workers.
But, when they came to join work on wednesday morning after Eid vacation, they found the factories’ gates locked. A closure notice was also found hanging on the gate to the garment.
