RMG factories in BD should be safe for workers : Hanna

DU Correspondent :European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh William Hanna on Wednesday said that the RMG factories in Bangladesh should be safe for the workers in order to avoid another tragedy like the Rana Plaza Tragedy that took place a year ago. William Hanna said this in a inaugural session of the three-day long photo exhibition began yesterday, focusing the Rana Plaza Tragedy under the banyan tree in the Shuhrawardy Udyan just near the Teacher-Student Center of Dhaka University (DU). The photos of about 60 photojournalists of home and abroad on the catastrophe have been displayed. The exhibition was formally inaugurated in the Games Room of the TSC. Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh Hanne Fugl Eskjaer, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman and Director General of PSC Brigadier General Ali Ahmed Khan were present, among others.  The organisers said, “The Rana Plaza collapsed in April last year in Savar. About 1,100 workers died and several hundred others were injured in the tragedy. In commemoration of them, we are arranging the exhibition.” Nasirul Islam Nasir, a photo Journalist of Dhaka Tribune told The New Nation that they were shocked when they were taking photos of the Rana Plaza tragedy. It was a holocaust in the history of the Bangladesh RMG sector. We never saw such incident. We do not want repetition of such tragedy.” The exhibition will end on April 25.
