Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in different districts on Tuesday in a befitting manner paying due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs. Various programmes were chalked out to observe the Day. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj adds: The Nation observed on Tuesday Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day with a call for the United National to introduce Bangla as of its official Languages.
 In 2000, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural organisation (UNESCO) declared 21, February as International Mother Language Day.
Kishoreganj District Administration, Police Office, Press Club, many political parties including ruling Awami League, Jasod, Ganatantree Party, NAP and Socio-Cultural and Voluntary Organisations and educational institutions observing the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy prosperous and non-communul Bangladesh free from militancy and terrorism. National Flag was hoisted at half-mast a top all government buildings, private buildings and educational institutions, culturals organisations Probhat Ferries were brought out in the town that ended at the Shaheed Minar.
Kishoreganj District Administration organiseda seven days begins Book Fair- 2017 at old stadium premise. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas inugurated the Book Fair. At least 127 Book Stall set-up in the Book Fair. To mark the Amar Ekushey, District Administration arranged a discussion meeting at old stadium with D.C. Md. Azimuddin Biswas in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Police Super Md. Anowar Hossain Khan, Zila Parished Chairman Md. Zillur Rahman, ADC (Gen) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, ADC (Edu. & ICT) Golam Md. Bhuiyan, District Awami League President Adv. Kamrul Ahsan Shajahan, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal and Sanak President Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu.
Netrakona Correspondent adds: People of all walks of life irrespective of cast, creed and religion here celebrated immortal Ekushey Februaray and International Mother Language Day with paying glowing tributes to the memories of the heroic sons of the soil, who laid down their lives for establishing Bangla as a state language in 1952.
The day’s program was formally started at the one minute past after the zero hour on the day with placing floral wreaths by the deputy commissioner Netrakona Dr. Musfiqur Rahman.
Then, he was followed by district level officers including police super Netrakona Joydeb Chowdhory.
Public representatives including chairman of Netrakona zila parishad Prosanta Ray and mayor of Netrakona pourasva Nazrul Islam Khan also placed wreaths at the Shaheed minar after the zero hour.
Leaders of district Muktizoddha Sangsad, different political parties including Awami League, BNP and JSD (Inu) and communist party, socio -cultural organizations and professional groups including Netrakona press club placed wreaths there.
Earlier, all the aforesaid organizations brought out pravat feries singing the popular song “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February—–Ami Ki Bhulite Pari” in the district town and the Pravat Feries were ended at the Shaheed Minar premises.
As part of the day’s programs, national flag was hoisted atop of all the public and private buildings at the sun rising period.
A documentary film-show based on “language movement” was screened for the local people including students at Netrakona old collectorate building premises in the afternoon.
A discussion meeting on “the immortal Ekushey February” was held at local public hall here in the afternoon under the auspices of Netrakona district administration. The meeting was followed by a musical soiree based on “patriotic songs”.
Gouripur Correspondent adds: Amar Ekushey, the Language Martyrs’ Day and the International Mother Language Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner, paying rich tributes to the language martyrs on February 21, 2017.
People from all walks of life placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of Shahid Harun Park in the middle town and elsewhere in the upazila, recalling the supreme sacrifice made by the language heroes, who laid down their lives for the mother tongue ‘Bangla’.
The beginning of Amar Ekushey, the Language Martyrs’ Day started at zero hours of midnight, Freedom Fighter Alhaj Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP , Margina Akter, UNO of Gouripur upazila and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department, members of Gouripur Reporters Club, local political leaders, freedom fighters and students of different educational institutions and Gouripur Press Club placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of the upazila town. Soon the Central Shaheed Minar was bedecked with flowers and wreaths. Volunteers and councilors of Gouripur Pourashava spent a hard night tackling the streams of people who lined up in a long queue for their turn to place wreaths at the Minar.
In the morning, different organizations and institutes, including Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School ,Gouripur R.K. Govt High School, Agradut High School, Gouripur Govt College, Gouripur Women College, Gouripur Govt Technical School and College .-singing in chorus the song of Amar Ekushey and carrying banners and placards, to pay homage to the language martyrs which paraded through the main roads of the town and joined. to the Central Shaheed Minar
BSS from Rajshahi reports: “Amar Ekushey and International Mother
Language Day- 2017″ was observed in the city like other parts of the country on Tuesday in a befitting manner paying rich tributes to martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.
Various political parties, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions observed the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh.
Since early morning, streams of people irrespective of age and sex were seen walking barefoot singing “Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami ki Bhulite Pari” towards the nearby Shaheed Minars especially those at Rajshahi College and Bhuban Mohan Park to pay their deep respect to the heroes. Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), the district and police administrations also observed the day through elaborate programmes.
The programmes include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings and probhat ferry, discussion, cultural and literary functions.
The city streets were decorated with miniature national flags and colored flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets. Multifarious programmes like Quran Khwani and discussion at the Imam Training Academy, art and literary competitions for school and college students at Shishu Academy and Shilpakala Academy, serving improved diets to the inmates of hospitals, jails, safe homes and baby homes and screening of documentary films on the Language Movement were also arranged in the city.
Marking the day, Language veterans were accorded a reception at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

Leaders of different political parties, socio cultural and professional organizations and people from all walks of life gathered at the central shaheed Minar here to pay respect to the martyred language heroes of the country and placed wreaths one after another. To mark the day, the district administration held day-long programme including discussion meeting, milad mahfil, poetry recitation, arts competition for the children and cultural function in the district.
Parliament Member of Panchagarh- 2, constituency advocate Nurul Islam Sujon opened the day’s programme by placing wreaths at Boda Shaheed Minar Park at zero hours. Deputy commissioner of Panchagarh Amal Krisno Mandol, police super Gias Uddin Ahamed and others high officials also placed wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar.
BSS from Rangpur reports: “Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day-2017 was observed here on Tuesday paying due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs with a fresh call for using Bengali at all spheres of national life.
The district administration, City Corporation, sociocultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies and educational institutions chalked out daylong programmes marking the day.
The observance began at the zero hours through placing wreaths by former president, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad at Central Shaheed Minar here.
Later, Mayor of Rangpur Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Kazi Hasan Ahmed and Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk placed wreaths there. Acting Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin and Police Super Mizanur Rahman placed wreaths there followed by other government departments, non-government, private and professional organisations.
Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL) and other political parties and common people also placed wreaths there till noon.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed attended the main discussion organised by the district administration last night at the Central Shaheed Minar as chief guest with Acting Deputy Commissioner Sultana Pervin in the chair.
DIG Khondker Golam Faruk, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of Rangpur Zila parisahd Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary (GS) Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its GS Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed as special guests.
