A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced a rice dealer and a trader to one month in jail in Singra upazila for stealing OMS (open market sale) rice that is meant to be sold among the ultra-poor for Tk10 per kg.
The convicted are-rice dealer Awal Hossain Swapan and rice trader Rahman Ali.
Upazil Nirbahi Officer Nasreen Banu said Swapan got allotment of 1,440kg rice. But he sold the rice to Rahmat. On information, a mobile court led by the UNO sentenced them and also cancelled dealership ofSwapan.
