About 20 thousand temporary meter readers , bill senders(messengers) under Rural Electrification Board (REB) in Chittagong demanded regularization of their service .
Palli Biddyut Samity under REB engaged these temporary employees since inception of the samity in greater Chittagong.
These temporary employees of PBS of Chittagong under the banner of Meter Readers Messengers Oikya Parishad formed human chain to press home their demand infront of Chittagong press club on Friday .
The president and the general secretary of the Oikya parishad Md. MohiuddinAlam and Milan Dey respectively in the human chain said if the govt does not implement their demands of service regularization under revenue head by next one month m they will enforce tougher movement including hunger strike, general strike and gherao programs . The human chain was told that under 73 Palli Biddyut Samity across the country. There are 20 thousand temporary contact basis meter readers and messengers but they were not paid their proper salary for the work. Sources said, in salary register of these temporary employees of PBS shown Tk.7000 as salary per month against each but actually they were paid only Tk.5000 .
The speakers in the human chain alleged that a permanent meter reader gets more than Tk.13000 along with other facilities like leaves, gratuity etc but these ill fated temporary meter readers are deprieved of these facilities. They also demanded leave facilites as per existing labour laws of Bangladesh .
The human chain called upon the concerned authorities to intervene the matter to resolve the grievances of the temporary employees under PBS.
