With 390 new cases reported in past 24 hours, the total coronavirus cases in Bangladesh by Wednesday rose to 3,772, according to latest data from Ministry of Health.
Out of the total cases, only 92 people have recovered from the infection, showing that the recovery rate is nearly 2.44 per cent, the lowest among both South Asian countries and nations which were hit the hardest by the pandemic.
Compared to South Asian nations, India recorded more than 3,976 recoveries out of 20,471 cases – a 19.42 per cent recovery rate, Pakistan has more than 2,156 recoveries out of 9,749 cases – a 22.11 per cent recovery rate and Sri Lanka has 104 recoveries out of 321 cases, showing a 32.39 per cent recovery rate, according to Worldometer, a website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.
Besides, the US has 819,321 Covid-19 cases, now the highest in the world, and it recorded 83,008 recoveries, showing a 10 per cent recovery rate.
China, which reported the first case of Covid-19 in late December, saw a 93 per cent recovery rate with 77,123 recoveries out of 82,758 cases, while Italy, a country hit-hard by Covid-19 saw over 28 per cent recovery rate with 51,600 recoveries against 183,957 infections reported.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said a recovery number remained fixed after a two-term in 14- days quarantine, which means a Covid-19 positive patient needs at least 28 days to be declared as a recovered case.
“So far, Bangladesh recorded its first Covid-19 case on March 8, so we have to wait for some more time to get a satisfactory recovery rate,” she said.
