Record dengue patients hospitalised in September

Bangladesh reported 7,841 dengue hospitalizations in September, the highest monthly tally this year.
The health directorate reported 22 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in the month, a drop from 34 fatalities in August.
The number of dengue cases in the country had spiked heavily in August with 7,698 dengue patients admitted to hospitals in the month.
A total of 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died in July, while 272 cases were recorded with no deaths in June.
According to the health authorities, there were no dengue-related deaths in the first six months of the year.
Meanwhile, as many as 188 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
The death toll from the mosquito-borne disease remained static at 68 this year, as no new deaths were reported on the day, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the total number of deaths from dengue this year, 63 people died in Dhaka city alone, two each in Chittagong and Khulna divisions, and one in Rajshahi.
Among the new dengue patients, 158 are undergoing hospital treatment in Dhaka while the remaining 30 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
A total of 1,004 patients diagnosed with dengue were receiving treatment in the country as of Saturday morning.
Among them, 974 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 210 were listed outside Dhaka.
As many as 18,550 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far, 17,478 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery.
The highest number of dengue patients hospitalized on a single day this year was 343 on September 7.
