Journo Jaglul, We mourn
We mourn the tragic death of Jaglul Ahmad Chowdhury, former Managing Director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha,, and pray to Allah for the salvation of the departed soul. The death news was shocking to us because he died from a road accident. Had the bus driver and the helper been responsible persons, Jaglul Chowdhury might have survived. He was smiling, polite, kind, dutiful, sincere, and dedicated to journalism all through his life.
From his conversations on the TV talk shows, it appears to me that he was neither Marxist nor bigot nor can be accused of holding extra-territorial loyalty. He always worked to make journalism a pure profession, never ran after the men in power or the influential ones for personal gain.
Nowadays journalism has become a risky profession though it is noble from ethical points of view. In many countries including Egypt journalists are maltreated, imprisoned, jailed and tortured because they speak the truth, carry the message of people to the government and point out the mistakes made by the government. They are the bridge between the government and the people. Jagluil Chowdhury was one of the architects of that bridge.
May Almighty Allah keep his soul in eternal peace. Ameen.
