Success Of A Civil Servant
Humayun Kabir is a successful Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) posted at Patharghata Upazila of Barguna district in October 2017. After joining there, he took some benevolent measures for the welfare of widow, old-age, disable, vulnerable and the poor men and women living in Patharghata.
The UNO knew that success of a work and mission depends on good planning and proper implementation. He, that’s why, visited the every Union under this Upazila, discussed about his mission with the intelligent and trusted people, prepared lists of the needy and distress persons in order to help them financially.
Humayun Kabir has never been tired of his responsibility. He prepared separate lists of the widow and old-age, homeless, vulnerable, disable and financially backward persons. He was careful in preparing the lists to avoid criticism, and for this reason, he visited the areas. He built houses for those who had land but no home to dwell in. He classified disabled persons into three categories in order to avoid controversy.
Kabir has become successful in stopping child marriage in this Upazilla. He knew child marriage is a curse as it leads to torture on women, and also influences dowry system. The UNO also worked for eradicating drug menace, its spreading and addiction in the society.
To raise the standard of education, he arranged competitions among the SSC level students under Upazilla administration in 2017 and 2018. The name of the competition was ‘Upazila Administration Gold Medal Competition’ while another such competition titled ‘Merit Annesa Gold Medal Competition’ was also held under his authority in cooperation with the Deputy Commissioner in 2017 and 2018. The champions in these competitions were awarded Gold Medal, the runners-ups were handed to Silver Medal and the 3rd place winners got Bronze Medal.
UNO Humayun Kabir, with the help of local people, built a tin-shed school for the students at Nathaka. Before that, the students of that locality had to attend classes under the open sky.
For contributions to the development of the Upazila in different sectors, Humayun Kabir was awarded the ‘Honour of Public Service day – 2019’.
