A college-teacher has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court here yesterday on charge of raping a schoolgirl in the district over 12 years back.
Judge of the Special Tribunal against Women and Child Repression KM Shahid Ahmed found him guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in his presence.
The convict was identified as Anwarul Haque Tito, 40, son of Emdadul Haque of Rustampur village under Bagha Upazila of the district. He was a teacher of a local vocational college. He was also fined Taka two Lakh.
The court asked the authorities concerned to pay Taka one lakh of the fined money to the victim.
According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused Anwarul Haque was private tutor of the victim, a student of class ten of a local school. On May 7, 2003, Anwar Tito raped the girl after alluring her to marry.
Afterwards, the victim became pregnant. But the rapist refused to marry her and pressed her for abortion. In the case verdict, it has also been mentioned that the kid from now on will get his paternal identity that has been proved through DNA test.
