Sylhet Division emerged the champions in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Boys’ (Under-17) Football Tournament defeating Rajshahi Division by 3-1 goals in the final at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur on Thursday. The stipulated time was ended in a 1-1 draw. Thus the fate of the match was decided in the tie-breaker and Sylhet won in the penalty shoot-out phase.
Anik Dev Marma of Sylhet Division was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
Rangpur Division became champions in the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Girls’ (Under-17) Football Tournament beating Mymensingh Division by a solitary goal in the final at the same venue on the same day. Nasrin Akhter of Rangpur Division was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
After the final matches, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, and President of Bangladesh Football Federation Kazi Salahuddin distributed the prizes among the winners.
Ministry of Youth and Sports arranged the football competitions for boys and girls. A number of four boys were sent to Brazil for higher training in 2018. This year a boys team and a girls team will sent to Brazil or other countries for higher training. The champions were awarded trophies and handsome cash-money.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present at the concluding ceremony virtually as the chief guest. Sheikh Hasina said, ” Our government will build Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan in every divisions. We have approved for two divisions already and we shall build rest of the organizations in the other divisions soon.”
