A Rajshahi Passport Office assistant was kidnapped by some unknown assailants from Shalbagan area of the city on Saturday noon.
The abducted officer is Ranju Lal Sarkar, hailed from Habiganj district. He used to live in a rented house at the Shalbagan area.
Azmal Kabir, Divisional Passport and Visa Office Director told The New Nation that Ranju was kidnapped in front of his colleague, computer operator Majibar Rahman.
Responding to a question, the Director said Ranju and Majibur were heading toward Shalbagan intersection area at 12:00 pm. At that time, a silver-coloured microbus stopped in front of them while they reached Power House Morh of the area. Four to five men kidnapped Ranju and left the place rapidly.
Meanwhile, in this regard, an abduction case was filed with Chondrima Police Station.
Chondrima Police Station officer-in-charge Humayon Kabir told The New Nation that the Passport Officer’s wife filed an abduction case with the police station in the afternoon.
In reply to a query, he said that it was not clear why Ranju was abducted and his family members could not explain any specific reason to the law enforcing agency behind abduction of Ranju. They are trying to trace him, he also added.
