The Medical Board formed for the treatment of Feni burn victim Nusrat Jahan Rafi on Monday said, she has been put on life support as her condition deteriorated.
Rafi’s lung is not functioning. Over 80 per cent of her body was burnt. Her overall condition is not improving, said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, Co-ordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of DMCH.
“We have put her on life support at 11:55am today,” Dr Samanta Lal Sen said.
“Skin of human body has seven lairs. Al the all lairs of Rafi have been burnt. We are doing our best to save her. She is in the unpredictable state,” Burn Unit and Surgery Unit Chairman Professor Dr Abul Kalam said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had asked the doctors of burn unit to send the victim to Singapore for better treatment, Biplob Barua, Special Assistant of PM told the media on Monday.
Biplob Barua said that the PM sent him t DMCH for observing the overall condition of Rafi after her talks with Dr Samanta Lal Sen over cell phone,” he said.
“The government will bear all the expenses of her treatment,” he said. A source of the burn unit said that the injured Rafi told that a group of four female students wearing veil tied her and poured kerosene on her body. Of them, one is Shampa. Earlier on Sunday, a 10-member medical board was formed for treatment of the female Alim examinee, who was set on fire on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Police arrested seven people – Mostafa Kamal, Nurul Amin, Ashraf, Saiful, Arif, Jasim and Alauddin – so far.
A case was filed on Monday over setting on fire a female madrasa student.
Her elder brother Mahmudul Hasan filed the case with Sonagazi police around 3:30pm accusing four persons and their accomplices, said Officer-in-Charge Moazzem Hossain.
The principal was arrested on March 17 and subsequently suspended after she accused him of sexually harassing her. The madrasa has been shut down until April 17, after the incident grabbed the headlines and sparked outrage across Bangladesh.
Rafi was set on fire on Saturday on the roof of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa centre by some students loyal to the madrasa principal Sirajuddoula.
They poured kerosene on her and set her on fire before fleeing the scene.
Hearing the victim’s screams, teachers and other students rushed to the rooftop and rescued her.
Rafi was then sent to Sonagazi Health Complex and later to Feni Sadar Hospital from where doctors referred her to DMCH after primary treatment, RMO of Feni Sadar Hospital said.
