A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has conducted a drive at Shahbuddin Medical College Hospital in city’s Gulshan area for deceiving people over covid-19 test.
The raid started at 3:00 pm on Sunday, said RAB Headquarters Executive Magistrate Md Sarwar Alam.
The drive was conducted after receiving some allegations that the hospital was providing Covid-19 test certificates to patients without having proper approval from the DGHS.
Meanwhile, RAB took Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital’s Assistant Director Dr Mohammad Abul Hasnat and its Inventory Officer Shahriz Kabir Sadik into custody for further interrogations.
They were taken into custody around 5pm for their alleged non-cooperation with the RAB’s mobile court during the drive.
The RAB magistrate said: “The hospital has been secretly conducting anti-body testing using rapid kit without approval of the government.
Moreover, they collected Tk 3000-10,000 from patients per head for the tests. Such activities are totally fraudulent and illegal.
RAB magistrate said there are mainly three allegations against the hospital. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) initially gave them permission for Covid 19 test but later revoked it due to lack of automated test machine. However, the hospital was conducting tests despite that.
Second allegation is that the hospital conducted some tests in other hospitals but provided results using its own pads.
Third allegation, the hospital has been allegedly recycling one-time usable safety products such as masks and gloves, he said.
Earlier, a college teacher Survi Rahman’s father Mokhlesur Rahman was admitted to Sahabuddin Hospital on June 18. That time the hospital took Tk 51,000 including Tk 47,000 for just one day oxygen bill in a normal bed. The victim teacher told the media about such an abnormal bill few days ago.
Earlier on July 6, RAB conducted drives Regent hospital’s Uttara and Mirpur branches on various allegations.
