The family of abducted leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) unit on Sunday night filed a case with Rajapara Police Station.
Sohag’s father Akkas-uz-Zaman filed the abduction case on behalf of his family.
It accused Jesmin Taslima Nabila, a classmate of the abducted BCL leader, some unidentified members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Detective Branch (DB) of police for abduction of Saifuzzaman Sohag. According to the case statement, a group of unidentified people, numbering 8-10, posed themselves as members of RAB and picked up Saifuzzaman Sohag, who is information and research secretary of RUET unit of BCL, in a white microbus from his house in Terokhada area of the city on December 9. They also took Sohag’s laptop, camera and some ornaments from the house. Officer-in-Charge of Rajpara Police Station and also investigation officer of the case Mahmudur Rahman confirmed the matter and said, the police will investigate the case and take initiative in this regard.
Mahbubur Rahman said, they are looking for Jesmin Taslima Nabila. They are trying to rescue Sohag, he said. On the other hand, Commander of RAB-5 Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub said, no RAB member was involved in the abduction case. They are looking into the matter. In the meantime, the RAB members are investigating the incident, he said.
Meanwhile, a human chain was formed near the road of Sports Society of Rajshahi demanding immediate rescue of Sohag and taking stern action against those who are involved in abduction. District Stadium Market Businessmen Association organized the human chain.
Father of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shamsuddin, Director of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sekendar Ali, President of Rajshshi Municipal District Stadium Market Businessmen Association Rejaur Rahman Dulal, businessmen and family members of Sohag participated in the human chain, among others.
Earlier on Friday, the family members of Sohag organised a press conference in the auditorium of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry where they complained that RAB picked up Saifuzzaman Sohag from their residence on December 9.
