Qatar, one of the richest Gulf States, has expressed interest to invest in Bangladesh’s energy sector and building LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal.
Qatar Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani conveyed it to Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, now in Doha, during a meeting held on Monday night on the sidelines of Doha Forum.
The premier also assured the Bangladesh Commerce Minister of hiring more Bangladeshis as Qatar will require huge manpower for developing infrastructure ahead of World Cup 2022, said a Commerce Ministry media release on Tuesday.
Tofail briefed the Qatar Prime Minister about the investment climate and prevailing facilities and laid emphasis on recruiting more workers from Bangladesh.
“An investment-friendly environment is prevailing in Bangladesh right now,” Tofail said seeking fresh Qatar investment in Bangladesh.
The Commerce Minister handed over an invitation to the Qatari premier on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for visiting Bangladesh. The Qatari PM appreciated his Bangladesh counterpart’s development initiatives and invited her to visit Qatar. Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Syed Masud Mahmud was also present.
More than 600 participants representing over 80 countries and organizations are participating in the Doha Forum, being held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel from May 12-14 May.
