Qatar Charity, an International Charity Organization, has distributed foodstuffs as an urgent relief to the 3600 members of the Rohingya refugees shifted to Bhasan Char, a remote Bay of Bengal island under Noakhali district.
The food items were distributed on last Wednesday. It was the third phase relief work of the Qatar Charity in the area.
Rice, pulses, oil, salt, sugar, onion, garlic, ginger, spices, chira, dry fish and potatoes were among the food list.
The food items were distributed in Bhasan Char in the presence and under the supervision of the responsible government officials. Osman Bashir, Program Director of the Qatar Charity, and other representatives were present on the occasion.
Osman Bashir said, “Qatar Charity has been working to provide humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya refugees, who were expelled from their own lands. The organization has been providing various assistances including food distribution after the Rohingya crisis had started. Hope the organization will keep the assistance program continue.”
Meanwhile, the members of the Rohingya refugees are also happy after getting regular assistance from the Qatar Charity.
Saleha Begum, a Rohingya woman who received assistance from the organization, said, “The food items I have been given will last at least a month for my family of 5 members. I get the assistance in every month. I thank to Qatar Charity.”
A naval official working in the Bhasan Char said Qatar Charity is regularly providing relief to the Rohingyan people. He hoped that this assistance would continue.
According to the Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) office more than 18000 Rohingya people have been shifted to Bhasan Char in six phases so far. They are given food assistances in a regular basis, said Ranjan Chandra Day, Camp in Charge of RRRC office for Bhasan Char.
