Protests erupt in Mirpur over Bihari camp demolition

Protests flare-up in city’s Mirpur area on Wednesday over demolition of a portion of Bihari camp.
The protesters burnt effigies of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam and ward no 5 councilor Abdur Rauf Nannu.
Leaders and activists of five organations of the stranded Pakistanis started mass hunger strike in front of Boro Mosjid on Road No 4 at 9am. Defying order of the Appellate Division, they began the mass hunger strike programme demanding legal action against mayor Atiqul Islam and the Prime Minister’s clear announcement on rehabilitation for the victims.
After that, local people of the camp gathered at the spot and staged demonstration there.
