Properties worth Tk.15 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in the house of one Ujwal Kumar Shil of village Kashipur within Baintala Union under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district recently.
Locals said that in the evening (at about 7 pm) the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in the dwelling house of Ujwal Kumar Shil engulfed the whole house within minutes and went out of control. On seeing the flame of fire and on hearing the hue and cry of the inmates of the house the neighbouring people rushed to the spot and trued their best to extinguish the fire. Being informed of the matter a fire service unit from Mongla reached the place of occurrence.
But before its arrival the dwelling with its all belongings including gold ornaments, cash Taka and other valuables were completely burnt to ashes. As a result, all the five inmates including the house owner were rendered homeless and they are now passing their days under the open sky. The loss of fire is estimated at Tk,15 lakh.
Abdullah Fakir, UP Chairman of Baintala visited the place of occurrence, consoled the fire affected family and sought the help to the family from the government.
