Chittagong Bureau :
Speakers at a memorial meeting yesterday paid rich tributes to Professor Abu Yousuf, a former vice-chancellor (VC) of Chittagong University (CU), and recalled his significant contribution to the education sector, reports BSS. They said the lone dream of Professor Yousuf was to free the university from session jam and he was successful in turning the varsity into an excellent seat of learning.
“He never compromised with honesty and patriotism and tried his best to remove conservative and reactionary activities from the campus,” they added.
Dr Abu Yousuf Civic Memorial Committee organized the condolence meeting at city’s Zila Parishad Auditorium yesterday evening.
Addressing the occasion, former city mayor and president of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury said Abu Yousuf was a man of ideology and principle guided by knowledge, conscience and human virtues.
Terming Yousuf as a ‘teacher of the teachers’, Mohiuddin said he not only contributed a lot to the development and qualitative improvement of country’s higher education but also had put in his best efforts for brightening the image of the CU through his leadership capacity, wisdom and personal relationship with high profile academics at home and abroad.
