The probe body formed to investigate the incident of gang rape of a young woman in Sylhet Murari Chand College (MC College) campus on September 25 submitted its report to the High Court on Tuesday.
The three-member committee placed the 176-page report through the HC division Registrar Md Golam Rabbani as
per its September 29 directive, said Deputy Attorney General Nawroz Mohammad Russel Chowdhury.
After receiving the report, the High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim set November 1 for further hearing on the issue. However, DAG Nawroz did not say anything about the content of the report.
On September 29, the HC bench formed the committee headed by the Judge of Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Tribunal of Sylhet to conduct an enquiry into the rape incident by taking depositions from the victim, principal, hostel superintendent, concern persons and informants who witnessed the incident.
The committee was asked to submit a report in the High Court over the inquiry within 15 days.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order as a Suo Moto move after a Supreme Court lawyer, Muhammad Misbah Uddin, brought some news reports regarding the issue to the attention of the court.
On the night of September 25, a group of BCL activists, some of them current and former students of the college, raped a woman after tying up her husband.
Later that night, the victim’s husband filed a case accusing six named and two-three unnamed. So far, police have detained seven persons, including four named in the case.
