Prices of eggs up, winter vegetables falling

There is no good news from the kitchen markets for the consumers, as prices of rice, flour, edible oil, sugar, and pulse are still dear. The lower and the middle income groups of people are baffled to maintain regular life.
. After visiting different markets in the capital on Friday it was seen that rice is being sold at Tk 56 to 82 per kilo, packet flour at Tk 45-46, while edible oil at Tk 156-165 and sugar at Tk 82-86, pulse was selling between Tk 90-130. Contrarily, onion price dropped a little selling at Tk 50-60.
The broiler chicken was selling at Tk 160-165 against Tk 175 of last week per kilo and the Pakistani cock (Sonali chicken) at Tk 340, against Tk 300-320 and layer at Tk 240-250 per kilo respectively.
On the other hand, the price of the eggs has increased again compared with last week and was selling Tk 115-120 dozens.
There are no vegetables except potato selling below Tk 70 only. Like the past, potato sells at Tk 20 in the market. Meantime, chilly price fell to Tk 120 to 140 at Baganbari, South Goran, Dhaka.
Golam Kibria Kama, a resident of Maniknagar, said, we are tired of price-hike of the essential commodities. We want the government’s intervention for a relief.
Winter vegetables have started arriving at the market, but tomatoe still sell at Tk 120 per kilo, and Chinese carrots at Tk 140-160.
Beans are being sold at Tk 100-120 and Luffa (jhinga) at Tk 50. One piece of small cauliflower and cabbage sells at Tk 50, Radish at at Tk 40, Bitter guard at Tk 70-80, snake gourd (chichinga) at Tk 60, purbal at Tk 60, Ladies finger at Tk 60 and barbati at Tk 80.
Vegetable sellers say there is no shortage of vegetables in the market. But the price is high. Retailers are being forced to sell at higher prices to cover greed..
There is no relief in the fish market. Rui is being sold at Tk250-280 per kg, Pangas at Tk 100-140,
large pabda at Tk 450-500, small tilapia at Tk 100-120, lobster at Tk 600-750 and horn fish at Tk 400-500 per kg. Small kachki fish is available for Tk 400 and Mola fish for Tk 300 per kg.
Shukkur Mia, a trader at Kawran Bazar, said the market was booming. Everything is expensive. As a result, the prices of all products have also increased at the wholesale level. The effect will be felt in the retail market.
Asked about this, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce AHM Safiquzzaman said that the government is monitoring the market. Businessmen who make unethical profits must face justice. If the price of the product is unreasonably increased on the pretext of international market price, it will be dealt with.
