Price fall in large-caps drives stocks further down

Stock markets closed on Monday of the week with downward trend due to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were IT sector, engineering and insurance. A total of 213 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 57.70 points down at 5,357.55. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 16.66 points down at 1,233.50 and with 13.76 points down at 1,883.47 respectively.
The daily trade fell to 12.41 crore shares from Thursday’s 15.90 crore shares and the day’s trade value at the DSE decreased to Tk 580.08 crore from Tk 742.39 crore of the previous session.
At the DSE, prices of 49 securities out of the day’s 337 closed higher against 265 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were Saiham Tex, Republic, CAPMIBBLMF, Takaful Insurance and Prime Life. The major losing companies were Intech, Janata Insurance, OIMEX, Sino Bangla and Global Insurance.
KPCL topped the turnover list followed by UPGDCL, SHASHADNIM, Ifad Autos and Active Fine.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 209.89 points down at 16,491.58.
