President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday paid rich tributes to the memory of Poet Begum Sufia Kamal on the occasion of her 18th death anniversary today.

“The Poet exercised the Bengali literature and language in her own style,” he said, adding that Sufia Kamal didn’t just make herself educated but waged movement to bring scopes for backward womenfolk.
The President said Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, which was established by Sufia Kamal, is a unique institution to realize women rights. “She will be ever remembered among us because of her versatile talents,” he added.
The Prime Minister, in her message, said, “I convey my profound respect to the memory of Begum Sufia Kamal, one of the pioneers of progressive, non-communal, democratic and women emancipation movements in Bangladesh.”
Sheikh Hasina said Sufia Kamal was the image of a traditional Bengali woman and an affectionate mother. On the other hand, she had played an uncompromising role in every movement in Bangladesh, she added.
