Preparations afoot to observe Amar Ekushey

The district administration has taken a Two-day long programme to observe the International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs Day in a befitting manner on February 21.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Tuesday.
DC Joinal Abadin chaired the meeting.Educationists, cultural activists and officials from different govt and non- government organisations attended.
Finance Minister is also expected to place floral wreaths at the Shahid Minar.
According to the programme, government, semi-government offices, institutions, political parties and socio-cultural organisations will place floral wreaths at the district level central Shahid Minar located at Sylhet Chouhatta Area.
BSS from Narayanganj says: The district administration have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the 21st February, the International Mother Language Day 2016 with due respect and solemnity on February 21.
The decision was taken in a meeting at the conference hall room of the deputy commissioner (DC) yestewrday.
President of BKMEA AKM Salim Osman MP was present in the meeting as the Chief Guest with deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman Miah in the chair. Leaders of different political parties, activists of socio-cultural organizations, government officials, representatives of NGO’s, freedom fighters, educationists, imams of different Mosques, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials attended the meeting.

The meeting chaired by DC Sardar Sharafat Ali was attended by the cross section of people including elite, educationists, cultural activists and officials.
According to the programme, government, semi-government offices, institutions, political parties and socio-cultural organizations will place floral wreaths at the district level central Shahid Minar located at Ambica Memorial hall.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Various government, non-government, volunteer and cultural organisations including the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and the district administration have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner tomorrow as elsewhere in the country.
The programmes include placing of floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flags at half-mast atop all public and private buildings and morning procession.
There will be miniature national flags and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets in the city streets. Qurankhwani and discussion at the Islamic Foundation office, art and literary competitions for school and college students at the Shishu Academy, and screening of documentary films on the Language Movement are other programmes of the day.
Language veterans will be accorded a reception on the occasion. Besides, a discussion and cultural function will be organised at the auditorium of Shilpakala Academy, the officials concerned here said.
The RCC has taken up elaborate programmes to observe the day. Acting Mayor of RCC Nizam-Ul Azim is likely to open the day’s programme by placing wreaths at Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar at zero hours.
Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL) and other political parties, professional organisations and common people will place wreaths there to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Rajshahi Medical College and other educational
institutions adopted various programmes to observe the day.
