Indian diplomat Pranay Kumar Verma, who is currently serving as the Ambassador of India to Vietnam, has been appointed the next High Commissioner to Dhaka.
In a press release published by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Friday reads, “He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.”
Verma will supersede his predecessor Vikram Doraiswami who is the current Indian envoy to Dhaka.
The new envoy Verma joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1994 and held diplomatic assignments in Washington DC, Beijing, San Fransisco, Hong Kong and Kathmandu.
Before posting in Hanoi, he served as the Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi since 2017.
He served as the director-general for external relations in the Department of Atomic Energy looking after India’s nuclear diplomacy.
Academically, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and also got a Master’s degree in the Chinese language from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, California.
Meanwhile, during the Doraiswami tenure, Indian President Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh last year as part of celebration the birth centenary of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Independence year anniversary.
