Pori Moni on remand again: Lawyer seeks HC attention

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday put actress Pori Moni on one-day remand in a case lodged with Banani Police Station of the city under the Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Atikul Islam of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing on Thursday.
Earlier, the actress was produced in the CMM court from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur around 8:30am.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday prayed for another five-day remand to question actress Pori Moni in a case filed with Banani Police Station. Investigation Officer of the case and CID Inspector Golam Mostafa filed a petition seeking another five-day remand with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas. Subsequently, the court set August 19 for hearing.
On August 4, RAB conducted an operation and arrested Pori Moni from her house at Banani. Various types of drugs were reportedly recovered from her house.
Meanwhile, a Supreme Court lawyer on Thursday brought the matter of sending Pori Moni, a film actress, on remand repeatedly to the attention of a High Court bench. Advocate Eunus Ali Akond prayed to the court to issue a Suo Moto (voluntary) order over the issue.
Hearing the lawyer, the High Court Bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman asked him to submit a petition properly.
Pori Moni was placed on remand for the third time on Thursday by a Dhaka Court in a drug case. A Dhaka court placed Pori Moni on a one-day remand in the third phase in a case filed with Banani Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, Md Atiqul Islam, passed the order after holding hearing on a remand prayer filed by Kazi Golam Mostafa, an Inspector of Criminal Investigation Department and also the investigation officer of the case.
Earlier on the day police brought her in the court from Kashimpur Central Jail and produced her in the court. The court at the same time rejected a bail prayer filed by Pori Moni.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police has already interrogated her for four days in the first phase and two days in the second phase.
On August 4 this year, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Pori Moni from her house. RAB also seized a huge quantity of narcotics from her residence. Later RAB filed a case against her under the Narcotics Control Act.
