Rampant sale and use of banned polythene bags, declared harmful to the environment, continues all over the district.
According to sources, the use of polythene in the district was stopped for some time after the government’s prohibition. But taking chance on the indifference of concerned authorities, some unscrupulous traders have started selling polythene in the urban and rural markets.
Presently different sizes of polythene are used in markets of the districts. Vendors of fish, vegetables, fruit, meat and other goods store bundles of polythene bags and give them to the customers to carry their goods.
