Police are yet to find any clue to the incident of abduction of a Cambrian College girl in which a security guard was shot dead.
The 19-year old was walking near her home in Uttara’s Sector-4 with her mother and a friend, ‘Mahfuz’, on Thursday last week when a white vehicle stopped them at 10:30 pm. Several men jumped out and dragged the girl into the car.
Mahfuz, a Cambrian College official, is supposed to marry the girl, police say.
Security guard Liakat Hossain Liton, 38 came rushing on hearing her scream and was shot dead by the attackers, who also hacked ‘Mahfuz’ with sharp weapons.
At dawn, the girl was dropped back at the spot from where she had been abducted. The victim’s mother filed a case over the abduction and murder with Uttara Police.
She has been admitted at One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC).
“Both the victim and her mother told me that a teacher at her institute, Cambrian College, has been proposing to her for long,” OCC Coordinator Bilkis Begum told this news agency. But she was to be married to college official Mahfuz.
There lay the core of her abduction.”
Police arrested six suspects on Saturday who included a teacher of a private college, a police official of Uttara had told bdnews24.com requesting anonymity.
Cambrian College has temporarily expelled finance teacher ‘Biplob’ for his alleged links with the incident, Mahbub Hasan Lincon, who teaches chemistry at the college, told bdnews24.com.
“Police have not questioned anyone at the college,” he said. “Not even Biplob. Authorities took disciplinary measures based on media reports.”
But police, however, seemed unaware of this supposed background to the incident.
