Former Dhaka University Central Students Union vice-president Nurul Haque Nur on Monday said that the police were suppressing opposition voices.
He also said that the Awami League government had destroyed all the institutions in Bangladesh including the police.
The former DUCSU leader said this while addressing a rally in TSC area protesting at the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail.
Nurul also condemned the police assault on Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists during their procession in National Press Club area in Dhaka on Sunday and the arrest of three JCD activists.
The rally demanded
abolition of Digital Security Act and release of all the arrested persons under the law.
Nurul criticized the DU authorities who ‘failed to ensure the security of students who came under police attack during a protest of Friday evening.’
Nurul announced a rally in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday and a procession towards the Prime Minister’s Office demanding the abolition of DSA.
Chhatra Odhikar Parishad leader Muhammad Rashed Khan said that DSA aimed at gagging media, freedom and critical voices.
